The annual pilgrimage has been carried out by the Catholic churches in Jordan on the second Friday of January since 2000. The Baptism Site "Bethany Beyond the Jordan," located on the east bank of the Jordan River, is an archaeological site inscribed on the World Heritage List. Jordan recently launched a plan to develop the Baptism Site in order to enhance the services offered to pilgrims and visitors, boosting religious tourism in Jordan.
